Waynell Hoberer

September 29, 1945 — December 18, 2025

Gainesville, Texas

Waynell Ruth (McGuire) Hoberer, 80, of Gainesville, Texas passed away on December 18, 2025 in Gainesville.

Waynell was born on September 29, 1945 in Gainesville, Texas. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1964 and then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where her older sister lived. Waynell married Eugene Paul Hoberer, of Hood, Texas on November 7, 1966 in Corpus Christi.

She had many interesting jobs. Early in her life, she worked at Dairy Queen in Corpus Christi, Texas Instruments in Dallas, at an insurance agency, and made aircraft seats at Weber Aircraft in Lindsay. Later she became the secretary at Chevron Oil in Sivells Bend, the school cook, bus driver, and custodian at Sivells Bend School, a pecan picker for Flying J Ranches, a fabric department employee at Gainesville Walmart, and a self-employed jewelry maker. She was proud to finish her career building airplane wiring harnesses at Boeing in Corinth. Even though she did a variety of jobs in her life, the most rewarding were housewife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and they were the light of her life.

In 1975, Gene and Waynell’s family began to grow with the birth of Darrell Gene Hoberer in September 1975 and later, Anthony Paul Hoberer in December 1980. Waynell was an avid photographer and left behind many albums of photos, most with notes written on the back in her beautiful handwriting. In 1985, they even got an early VHS video camera to record the boys’ adventures and the wildlife near their Sivells Bend home. They lived on the Flying J Ranch #4 for almost 50 years and remained married until Gene’s death in 2022. Waynell loved traveling and always dreamed of going to see Paris. Closer to home, she was an animal lover. In her life, she had countless dogs and cats, kept chickens, pigs, several pet deer, an iguana, and even a few peacocks. She loved hummingbirds and had dozens of feeders each summer, and fed cardinals and finches during the winter. Rural life out in woodsy Sivells Bend allowed plenty of space for her menagerie.

Waynell was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene, mother Marie McGuire, father Wayne Maitland, and sister Martha Lee Gibson. She is survived by son Darrell and wife Jen of Sivells Bend and their children Brendan Gene, Andrew John, and Kayley Ruth. She is also survived by son Anthony of Gainesville, to whom she passed on her love of animals, and niece Lori Hoberer Phillips, who she thought of as the daughter she never had.
