Weldon Ray Turner

Weldon Ray Turner, 79, of Gainesville, passed away October 18, 2023 in Gainesville.

Weldon was born December 2, 1943 in Whitesboro.  He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1961 and attended Cooke County Junior College and North Texas State University.  He married Nickie Lue Huddleston on April 10, 1964 in Saint Jo.  Mr. Turner retired from careers with both Armco Steel and Alan Ritchey Inc.  He was also a longtime basketball and football official for youth sports.  Mr. Turner was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing (especially for trout), playing golf, camping, and played softball until age 65.

Survivors include: wife Nickie Turner of Gainesville; daughter Shirley Hefley (Steve) of Longview; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Gale Fielder of Little Elm; sister Wanda Yeager (James) of Waco; brother Roy Turner (Barbara) of Ardmore, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Turner was predeceased by: parents Elmer and Bessie (Day) Turner; and brother-in-law Clifford Fielder.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville.  A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23, at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville.

Recognized as honorary pallbearers are: Rodney Fleenor, Joe Grotte, Glenn McLerran, Mike Gentry, Gary Hillis, E.D. Moser, and Dan Schafer.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
